Trump: Democrats made ‘BIG mistake’ getting Cheneys involved
President-elect Trump said Democrats made a “BIG mistake” getting involved with former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) and her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney.
“The Democrats made a BIG mistake in getting Crazy Liz Chaney, and her father, Dick, involved in their campaign for President. It made the Republicans angry and the Democrats just plain scratching their heads in amazement,” Trump posted Sunday on his TruthSocial platform. “It is always a bad idea to bring ‘losers’ into a political campaign!”
Liz Cheney became one of the most vocal Republican critics of Trump after she joined the House investigative committee that found him culpable for the violence at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
She joined Vice President Harris’s campaign in what was viewed as an effort to reach across the aisle and show voters that just because they vote for a Democrat does not mean they are giving up their Republican values.
Her father, Dick Cheney, was one of the more prominent Republican backers of Harris’s campaign. His endorsement this fall argued that Americans have a duty to “put country above partisanship.”
Trump has consistently criticized the Cheneys.
After the former vice president endorsed Harris, Trump said he was an “irrelevant RINO” — or “Republican in name only.” Just days before the election, Trumps remarks about Liz Cheney in which he described her having guns “trained on her face” drew backlash.
