Trump congratulates Chiefs on win, mum on Eagles
President Trump in a late-night social media post congratulated the Kansas City Chiefs after they won the AFC Championship Game, advancing to another Super Bowl. The president, however, was quiet when it came to the Philadelphia Eagles’ win in the NFC Championship Game.
“Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social site. “What a GREAT Team, Coach, Quarterback, and virtually everything else, including those fantastic FANS, that voted for me (MAGA!) in record numbers.”
Trump also congratulated the Buffalo Bills on a “tremendous season,” saying the Bills will do a lot of winning in the future.
Buffalo lost to the Chiefs, 32-29, allowing Kansas City a chance at its third-straight Super Bowl win.
The president made no mention the Eagles’ win on Truth Social. Philadelphia beat the Washington Commanders, 55-23, to return to the Super Bowl.
It's the fifth time the Chiefs have made it to the Super Bowl in the last six years, and the second time for Philadelphia. The two teams previously competed in the Super Bowl in 2023, when the Chiefs ultimately won, 38-35.
During his first term, Trump cancelled a planned White House visit by the Eagles, who won the 2018 Super Bowl, after some played decided to boycott the event. Trump said the team were uninvited because Philadelphia players kneeled to protest police brutality instead of standing during the National Anthem. None of the Eagles players, however, reportedly kneeled during the anthem or stayed in the locker room while it was played during the preceding season.
This year's Super Bowl will be held in New Orleans on Feb. 9.
