Trump calls for Harris to take cognitive test after criticism of his medical records
Former President Trump said Monday that Vice President Harris should take a cognitive test, as the Harris campaign hammers him for his refusal to release his own detailed medical records and questions his fitness for office.
“I believe it is very important that Kamala Harris pass a test on Cognitive Stamina and Agility,” Trump posted on Truth Social, baselessly claiming that “her actions have led many to believe that there could be something very wrong with her.”
Trump repeated a claim that “60 Minutes” wrongfully changed an answer Harris gave about Israel in an interview last week. The network aired Harris’s full answer in a preview clip that was made available online, and it aired a shorter, more concise answer from Harris on the topic during its full broadcast.
“Also, she is slow and lethargic in answering even the easiest of questions,” Trump wrote. “We just went through almost four years of that, we shouldn’t have to do it again!”
The Harris campaign has been attempting to put Trump’s mental acuity in the spotlight three weeks before Election Day.
On Saturday, the vice president released her medical history, which said she is in “excellent health” and has the physical and mental resiliency required to be president. She put pressure on the 78-year-old Trump to do the same. Trump in August said he would “very gladly” release his medical records to the public, but he has not done so.
"Here’s the thing it makes you wonder. It makes you wonder, why does his staff want him to hide away?" Harris said Sunday in North Carolina. "One must question, are they afraid that people will see that he is too weak and unstable?"
The Trump campaign gave no indication it would share the former president’s medical records in the coming weeks, and it instead pointed to the health updates provided on his recovery from an ear wound after he was shot in July. A spokesperson also cited Trump’s rigorous campaign schedule as evidence of his fitness for office.
The former president has routinely tried to call into question the mental fitness of his political opponents. In 2016, 2020 and earlier this year, Trump called for his Democratic rivals to take a drug test ahead of debates, claiming baselessly that they might be on a performance enhancer.
The Hill has requested comment from the Harris campaign on Trump's latest post.
