Tom Hanks plays MAGA supporter on 'Black Jeopardy' during 'SNL' 50th anniversary

Actor Tom Hanks reprised his role as a President Trump supporter on the "Saturday Night Live" ("SNL") special three-hour episode celebrating the show's 50th anniversary.
Hanks first played "Doug," sporting a Make American Great Again (MAGA) hat, in a 2016 skit called "Black Jeopardy," surprising the host and fellow contestants with shared sentiments about distrust of government and other issues.
He briefly returned to the role Sunday, dressed in a denim jacket, shirt emblazoned with an American Eagle, and the trademark red Trump hat.
"Welcome to 'Black Jeopardy,' the only 'Jeopardy' where every single viewer fully understood Kendrick's halftime performance," said host Kenan Thompson, playing Darnell Hayes and referring to Kendrick Lamar's halftime show at the Super Bowl.
Hanks appeared at the end of the skit, replacing Eddie Murphy, who was impersonating longtime former "SNL" cast member Tracy Morgan. Hanks as Doug correctly identified the Church Lady, a character played by comedian Dana Carvey.
"Speaking of church, can I say something, if more people went to church, we wouldn't be in this mess we're in now," Hanks said in a Southern accent, drawing agreement from Thompson as the host.
"You're welcome at 'Black Jeopardy' anytime," he said.
"Well, thank you, my brother. Maybe I'll start a show for you to come on and we'll call it 'White Jeopardy,'" Hanks said.
"We don't need it," Thompson responds.
As in the 2016 skit, the MAGA supporter portrayed by Hanks initially declines to shake Thompson's hand before relenting.
Some MAGA supporters criticized the skit on social media.
Mario Nawfal, the host of "The Roundtable Show," criticized the sketch on social platform X, calling it a "tone-deaf moment."
"Hollywood still doesn't get it: Portraying Trump supporters as racist caricatures while he's winning record minority support. SNL's trying 2016 jokes in 2025," Nawfal said.
