Sunday shows preview: New tariffs upset global trade; Senate GOP advances Trump agenda

The world was caught in the crosshairs of President Trump’s tariffs on Wednesday which forced an outcry from foreign leaders across the globe following the shift in U.S. trade policy.

The president of the European Commission said many felt “let down by our oldest ally” while her counterparts in China raced to retaliate.

White House officials rallied among the clamor to support the president’s trade policy and said as a result business would boom for Americans.

Kevin Hassett, director of the White House National Economic Council, is set to hammer down those points during a Sunday appearance on ABC’s “This Week.” He’s long touted the administration’s positive impact on the economy and even suggested second quarter sales would “take off” once Trump’s tax cuts kick in.

Republican Senators made strides towards advancing a budget reconciliation package this week that would include an expansion for the leader’s 2017 tax cuts in addition to bolstering border security and increased defense spending.

Democrats presented a number of objections through amendments which were all struck down leaving concerns about potential cuts to social services amid the financial reordering. Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) will likely share the party’s perspective on the events which played out on the floor during the wee hours of Saturday morning during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) presided over a series of votes to successfully pass the resolution and may speak to the strategic win during an appearance on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

House Republican Nicole Malliotakis (N.Y.) will likely speak to the awaited GOP response in the lower chamber.
