Selena Gomez deletes tearful video: 'All my people are getting attacked'
A video showing Selena Gomez sobbing while saying "All my people are getting attacked" with an image of the Mexican flag appears to have been deleted from her social media page amid the new Trump administration's immigration crackdown.
The Instagram clip of the crying "Only Murders in the Building" star was reportedly posted Monday before being deleted.
In the video, Gomez was seen wiping away tears as her voice breaks.
"I just want to say that I'm so sorry. All my people are getting attacked. The children. I don't understand," the 32-year-old Emmy Award-nominated actor said, with an image of the Mexican flag on the screen.
"I'm so sorry, I wish I could do something, but I can't. I don't know what to do. I'll try everything, I promise," Gomez added.
The video posted for Gomez's more than 420 million followers on Instagram comes alongside President Trump's ramped-up efforts on deportation and at the southern border. Last week, Trump ordered active-duty troops to the border to bolster federal, state and local law enforcers to deal with migrants whom he has described as "invading" the U.S.
Trump has also moved to halt refugee and migrant parole programs and has reportedly given immigration officers daily arrest quotas to meet. He sought to end birthright citizenship for children whose parents are in the country without legal status, but that executive order has been blocked by the courts.
In 2019, Gomez penned an op-ed for Time magazine reflecting on how many of her family members entered the United States from Mexico starting in the 1970s.
Immigration, she wrote in the piece, "goes beyond politics" and "is a human issue."
After deleting her Monday video, she commented, "Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people."
