Scarborough: Trump media lawsuits 'all going to get thrown out'
MSNBC host Joe Scarborough dismissed President-elect Trump's threats to sue media outlets, pollsters and others he feels have wronged him.
"Ann Selzer ... Ann doesn’t have to worry. The Des Moines Register? They don’t have to worry,” Scarborough said in reference to a suit Trump filed Tuesday against the pollster. "They will not get ... the Trump team won’t get past summary judgment. That’ll be thrown out very quickly.”
Scarborough then scoffed at a separate suit Trump filed last month against CBS News over a "60 Minutes" interview he argues was deceptively edited to make Vice President Harris look good.
“CBS News? For their edits? for their … and what they did in the edit bay on '60 Minutes' ... doing what '60 Minutes' has been doing for like 60 years," he said, "That’s not going to get past summary judgment."
“I mean, you go down the list and all of those are going to be thrown out like that," the host added in comments highlighted by Mediaite.
Trump said during a press conference Monday that he's "doing this not because I want to. I’m doing this because I feel I have an obligation to,” in regard to the suits he is pursuing against media outlets.
His lawsuit against Selzer and the Des Moines Register comes just days after ABC News agreed to pay a $15 million settlement to the president-elect over an interview with a lawmaker during which anchor George Stephanopoulos said on air that Trump had been found liable for rape.
A jury earlier this year found Trump liable for sexual abuse in the mid-1990s against writer E. Jean Carroll and that he later defamed her by denying the claims.
Several press freedom groups told The Hill Monday the settlement could have a chilling effect on other media outlets looking to avoid Trump's wrath.
