Scarborough dismisses Trump meeting backlash: 'Massive disconnect'
Joe Scarborough, host of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” brushed aside blistering criticism he and his co-host and wife, Mika Brzezinski, are facing for a meeting they had with President-elect Trump late last week.
"I will say ... first of all, thank you to everyone who was so kind last night," Scarborough said during the morning talk program Tuesday. "Yesterday, I saw for the first time what a massive disconnect there was between social media and the real world."
The host said he was "flooded with phone calls from people all day, literally around the world," which were "very positive, very supportive," of him.
Scarborough's comments were first highlighted by Mediaite.
He and Brzezinski have been under fire this week after announcing Monday they had met with Trump to "reopen" a line of communication as the former president prepares to return to office in January.
The news sparked instant backlash from viewers and critics, who accused the hosts of capitulating to the same person they have painted as a threat to democracy, or saying the meeting is a play for ratings.
"All of us will do the best we can do, and we’re all working towards a better America," Scarborough said Tuesday.
“Take it day by day, people,” Brzezinski chimed in.
“Day by day,” Scarborough added. "Again, you can predict the future by shaping the future.”
