Sam Bankman-Fried dishes to Tucker Carlson about life in prison: 'It's sort of dystopian'

FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried talked to former Fox News host Tucker Carlson about life in prison in an interview posted Thursday to the social platform X.
“It's sort of dystopian,” Bankman-Fried told Carlson on “The Tucker Carlson Show.” “You know, the fortunate thing, the place I'm in, I'm not in … I'm not in physical danger.”
“And, you know, frankly, a lot of the staff, they're trying to be helpful,” he added. “They're trying to, you know, do what they can, given the constraints. But, you know, no one wants to be in prison.”
Bankman-Fried was sentenced in March last year to 25 years in prison after being convicted in the fall of 2023 in the Southern District of New York on conspiracy and federal fraud charges in connection with his involvement in the collapse of FTX, a crypto exchange firm.
“A lot of people feel really let down, and they were very let down, and I am sorry about that,” Bankman-Fried said prior to receiving his sentence last year, according to CNN.
“I am sorry about what happened at every stage. And there are things I should’ve done and things I shouldn’t have.”
Bankman-Fried told Carlson in the interview that he was at a Brooklyn detention center and said that he had “made some friends.”
“I've, you know, started reading novels again. I play some chess, and I work on my legal case to the extent I can,” Bankman-Fried said.
Bankman-Fried had been a central figure in the up-and-coming crypto industry in Washington prior to the collapse of FTX. He had also scooped up notable endorsements from celebrities including NFL star Tom Brady and beloved NBA player Stephen Curry.
The Hill has reached out to the detention center in Brooklyn for comment.
