Rosie O'Donnell moves to Ireland: 'Heartbreaking to see' what's happening in US politics
Rosie O'Donnell, a longtime critic of President Trump, announced Tuesday that she has moved to Ireland, citing U.S. politics as the catalyst for her relocation.
In a nearly 10-minute-long TikTok video, O'Donnell said she moved with her 12-year-old child on Jan. 15, just days before Trump was sworn in to office for the second time.
"I moved here on Jan. 15, and it's been pretty wonderful. I have to say, the people are so loving and so kind, so welcoming, and I'm very grateful," O'Donnell said. "I'm in the process of getting my Irish citizenship, as I have Irish grandparents."
“Although I was never someone who thought I would move to another country, that's what I decided would be the best for myself and my 12-year-old child,” she added.
O'Donnell said she would consider returning to America when "it's safe" and all citizens have "equal rights."
“I miss many things about life there, at home, and I'm trying to find a home here in this beautiful country, and when, you know, it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America, that's when we will consider coming back,” she said.
“It's been heartbreaking to see what's happening politically and hard for me personally as well. The personal is political, as we all know,” she added.
O'Donnell had a long-running feud with the president when he was last in office. She became known as one of his most outspoken critics from the entertainment world.
Trump in the past repeatedly referred to O'Donnell as a "loser" and a "pig," while she's called him "mentally unstable."
