Pritzker says it is ‘natural’ for Harris to adapt immigration policies over time
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) said it’s “natural” that Vice President Harris has changed her immigration policies over time.
Pritzker joined CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday after Harris campaigned in Arizona, visited the U.S.-Mexico border and called for tougher border security. Anchor Jake Tapper asked the governor why Harris walked back her previous stances on immigration reform.
“It’s natural, of course, that you adapt your policies to meet the moment,” Pritzker said.
He pointed to mass migration globally that has begun to “increase significantly” over the last four years since Harris’s first run for president.
Pritzker said Harris is showing she would stand behind the bipartisan immigration bill crafted in the Senate earlier this year, which he said former President Trump “torpedoed.”
“We finally, under Joe Biden, got Senator Lankford and a total of 75 senators behind a border security bill and you know who torpedoed that? Donald Trump,” Pritzker said. “So we got to pay attention to the fact that Kamala Harris is actually trying to solve problems.”
Pritzker noted his city of Chicago has seen an influx of migrants in recent years. As Republicans look to criticize the Biden administration over its delay in immigration reform, the Democratic governor said they have been “working behind the scenes” and presented the bill earlier this year.
