Pennsylvania Democrat says someone ‘should have been fired’ over Trump MSG rally
Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-Pa.) said she thinks someone “should have been fired” over former President Trump’s rally earlier this week at Madison Square Garden.
“Why isn’t somebody fired for that?” Dean questioned Thursday on NewsNation’s “The Hill.” “This is the big, strong guy who likes to fire people and yet he just says ‘Oh, I have no idea.’”
“Somebody should have been fired,” she continued.
Dean was referring to comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s remark at Trump’s Sunday New York City rally.
Hinchcliffe compared Puerto Rico to a “floating island of garbage” in the ocean and has sparked a wave of criticism from his comment.
Trump and his campaign have attempted to distance themselves from the comedian. The former president said he didn't know who Hinchcliffe was and didn’t hear him speak.
“I don’t know him; someone put him up there. I don’t know who he is,” Trump said in an interview published days after the rally.
He also argued Hinchcliffe’s remarks were taken out of context.
“What they’ve done is taken somebody that has nothing to do with the party, has nothing to do with us, said something. And they try to make a big deal,” Trump said Tuesday, later adding that he “can’t imagine it’s a big deal.”
Dean argued that Hinchcliffe, who she called a “horrific comedian,” is representative of Trump’s campaign.
“Donald Trump has insulted … and castigated Haitian Americans, Puerto Rican Americans, Jewish Americans, Muslim Americans, childless Americans. I could go on and on,” she said.
She argued Thursday, that Trump is “scary for the future of this country.”
“The vile and vulgar performances at Madison Square Garden are nothing we can be proud of, nothing we can let our children or grandchildren watch,” Dean said.
The Hill has reached out to the Trump campaign for comment.
