NJ senator sees 'multiple unexplained and unidentified' drones during nighttime patrol
Sen. Andy Kim (D-N.J.) shared frustrations with constituents over apparent drones flying over the state during a Thursday night observation in Hunterdon County, where the activity was reported.
“It’s hard for people to feel secure when there are unexplained drones flying overhead and they’re not getting answers they need from the federal investigation,” Kim said in a press release issued Friday morning.
“This has been going on for weeks and I’m just as frustrated as everyone else in not getting more information and details. That’s why I came out to see for myself, and I’m grateful for local police for taking me around.”
He surveyed the area for approximately two hours with local law enforcement searching for answers, according to his office.
Kim’s on-the-ground approach comes days after he sent a letter to federal agencies, alongside Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), requesting support from Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Aviation Administration and FBI.
“People deserve answers,” Kim said in the release.
“We don’t need conspiracy theories or conjecture, we need assurances that the people charged with keeping us safe are on top of this issue, and a line of communication so that people feel like their government is taking this seriously.”
The FBI is investigating drone sightings, although the Department of Defense has said there was “no evidence” the unidentified drones are a result of a foreign entity or “the work of an adversary.”
