New Orleans Airbnb rental may be tied to deadly attack: Louisiana attorney general
Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill said a New Orleans Airbnb rental may be tied to the deadly attack on Bourbon Street in the early hours of New Year's Day.
Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old Texas man, drove a pickup truck into a crowd during the city's holiday celebration, killing 15 people and injuring dozens more.
Authorities believe Jabbar was not working alone.
Murrill joined NBC’s Lester Holt for an interview broadcast late Wednesday as authorities assessed the aftermath and continued their investigation.
“There certainly is continuing to be an active investigation so that we can identify just how many additional individuals were involved,” she said. “But I can tell you with some certainty that there are multiple individuals who are involved.”
Murrill confirmed that authorities believe a house fire in New Orleans was connected to the incident, and explosive devices were being made at the location.
“It was an Airbnb,” Murrill said. “So we know that these individuals had rented the house, were using it for that purpose and then the other events unfolded.”
Jabbar was killed in a shootout with police. Police are investigating the incident as a terror attack, noting he carried an ISIS flag on the truck and had been interested in the extremist group.
