Moulton: Hegseth a danger to US, servicemembers

Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) slammed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, calling him a danger to the country and the United States’ military after The Atlantic reported on Monday that its editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg had been included on a Signal channel that detailed sensitive information regarding U.S. strikes in Yemen against the Houthis.
“Incompetence so severe that it could have gotten Americans killed. There is no world in which this information should have been shared in non-secure channels,” Moulton, a Marine veteran who served in Iraq, wrote on X.
“Hegseth is in so far over his head that he is a danger to this country and our men and women in uniform,” he said.
Addressing the Republicans on the House Armed Services Committee, Moulton told the committee that Hegseth “needs to explain himself to Congress and be held accountable.”
Goldberg reported earlier on Monday that Waltz had apparently accidentally included him in a small Signal chat with top-level Trump administration officials, including Vice President Vance, White House national security advisor Mike Waltz and Hegseth.
Hegseth’s posts included “operational details of forthcoming strikes on Yemen, including information about targets, weapons the U.S. would be deploying, and attack sequencing,” according to Goldberg.
National Security Council spokesman Brian Hughes confirmed to Goldberg that the Signal group appeared to be authentic and officials were investigating how his number had been included in the chat. The reporting has appalled Democrats and Republicans alike.
