Michael Cohen on Trump rallies: 'He's demented and it's showing more often'
Michael Cohen, an ex-fixer for former President Trump who has turned into a vocal critic, says the wind has gone out of the sails of the former president's campaign to return to the White House.
“One of the things we’ve seen is that his rallies aren’t like they used to be. He’s demented and it’s showing more often,” Cohen told a columnist for Salon. “Somehow he tries to keep the narrative going about how he’s a better candidate, but come on. It’s Donald. He’s a loser.”
Cohen’s jab follows Vice President Harris pointing out in a debate against Trump earlier this month that “people start leaving his rallies early out of exhaustion and boredom.”
“I’m gonna invite you to attend one of Donald Trump’s rallies, because it’s a really interesting thing to watch,” Harris said.
“He talks about fictional characters like Hannibal Lecter. He will talk about windmills cause cancer,” she continued. “And what you will also notice is people start leaving his rallies early out of exhaustion and boredom. And I will tell you the one thing you will not hear him talk about, is you.”
Cohen said, "The vice president is right."
The Hill has reached out to the Trump campaign for comment.
Trump's former attorney told Salon that he is increasingly less worried about political violence after the November election because he believes Harris will win by a resounding margin.
"I really don’t see him being able to do anything about it," Cohen said.
Earlier this week, Cohen said that if Trump does pull off a win, he may be forced to leave the country for fear of retribution.
“I’m out of here. I mean, I’m already working on a foreign passport with a completely different name,” he told MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace.
Cohen, who served jail time for crimes including lying to Congress and federal campaign finance violations, told Salon that his former boss faces the same fate if he loses to Harris.
"He’s still looking at prison," he said.
Trump became the first sitting or former president to be convicted in a criminal trial in May. A New York jury found him guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records to hide an alleged affair with an adult film actress during his 2016 campaign, the same scandal that put Cohen behind bars.
Trump also faces ongoing legal battles over his handling of classified documents and his actions surrounding the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection and his efforts to remain in power after losing the 2020 election.
