Melania Trump hat: What people had to say about Inauguration Day fashion
WASHINGTON (WDCW) – Of all the things that people could be talking about on Inauguration Day, it didn't take long for people to latch onto the attire of Melania Trump, with one point of discussion taking the lead: her hat.
Google showed "melania trump hat" as a breakout search Monday morning after she appeared with her husband, then-President-elect Donald Trump, for the start of their Inauguration Day itinerary. The couple had tea at the White House and attended a prayer service.
Page Six, reporting on her attire, said the incoming first lady wore "a custom double-breasted navy coat by Adam Lippes and a matching boater hat by Eric Javits." Both are American designers.
Tamara Abraham, acting deputy fashion director at The Telegraph, said the "boater-style hat" was "borrowed from the British royal style playbook."
Among other reactions, New York Magazine published a story from Margaret Hartmann titled "Melania Is Wearing a Carmen Sandiego Hat to the Inauguration." In describing the ensemble, New York Post writer Nadine DeNinno also observed: "The look was a stark contrast to her 2017 powder blue Ralph Lauren dress and coat, which many likened to Jacqueline Kennedy."
Melania Trump on Monday joined her husband, Donald Trump, in Washington, D.C., for a day of inaugural festivities, including his swearing-in as the 47th president of the United States.
President Trump joked in remarks at the Capitol that the first lady was in danger of blowing away in strong winds affecting the D.C. region on Monday. Trump's inauguration was moved inside at the Capitol amid the freezing conditions, the first indoors inauguration since President Reagan's in 1984.
