Megyn Kelly says speakers at Trump's Madison Square Garden rally were 'totally counterproductive'
Radio host Megyn Kelly criticized speakers at former President Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally, calling their remarks “counterproductive” on a Tuesday NewsNation appearance.
“I'm not a Kamala Harris fan. I've been very clear about that. I think she's empty-headed and really quite moronic. However, there is zero point in offering man after man after man to call her the devil, evil, suggest she's got a pimp,” Kelly told anchor Elizabeth Vargas. “Like this is totally counterproductive. You're already hemorrhaging women on this campaign.”
“The goal a week out is to get more people to vote for Donald Trump, not fewer,” Kelly stated.
A serious gender cap has emerged in the contest between Trump and Vice President Harris, with the former building a huge advantage in polls among men, and the latter with women.
Trump's rally this week came under negative scrutiny over various moments, most notably comedian Tony Hinchcliffe calling Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage.” He also made various vulgar statements about how Latinos “love making babies.”
Trump’s campaign team has sought to distance itself from the material, saying it did not reflect the views of the Republican nominee.
Kelly shared that she felt that Trump’s speech was effective and strayed away from offensive language.
“Trump's message didn't have any of that. He was right on brand. He started it beautifully. ‘Are you better off now than you were four years ago,’ and pretty much stayed on message his entire remarks and did say a lot of uplifting things,” Kelly stated.
“He was not well served by the people who came before him, who seemed to have forgotten that they were there to get votes and not to just pound beers and say incendiary things at the local pub.”
