Maryland Republican concedes House race in third straight loss
Republican Neil Parrott officially conceded in the Maryland House race for District 6, acquiescing to his third straight political loss.
“Maryland’s 6th District is a wonderful place to live, and my wife and I will continue to serve and invest in our community,” Parrott released in a statement Thursday on the social platform X, after the Maryland State Board of Elections called the race.
“The vast majority of votes have now been counted, and it has become clear that April McClain-Delaney will be elected to this Congressional seat,” he added.
“I wish Mrs. McClain-Delaney all the best as she executes her duties to serve the people of Maryland’s 6th Congressional District over the next two years.”
McClain-Delaney won the House seat previously held by her husband, former Rep. John Delaney, with 52.6 percent of the vote, according to Decision Desk HQ. She will replace former Rep. David Trone (D-Md.), who vacated the seat to run a senatorial campaign.
Parrott lost to Trone, a wealthy businessman, twice in years past, which some blame on underspending.
This year, Parrott reportedly raised $910,000, according to Maryland Matters, which cited filings with the Federal Election Commission last month.
McClain-Delaney spent a total of $4.3 million; reports show $3 million came from her personal finances.
