Mangione asks for laptop in jail to view documents in case

The alleged CEO shooter Luigi Mangione has asked for a laptop in jail to view the documents against him in the UnitedHealthcare CEO case.
In a court filing Monday, Mangione’s lawyers asked if he could be provided a laptop solely to view the documents, video and other material related to the case, and not for any communication purposes.
Limited laptops have been made for some other defendants in the same federal detention center in New York City, The Associated Press noted.
If Mangione does get a laptop it wouldn’t be able to connect to the internet or run any sort of entertainment.
While in jail, the laptop would give him access to the more than 15,000 pages of documents and thousands of hours of video that prosecutors have gathered for the case.
If he is not granted the ability to have the laptop Mangione would have to review the information while he is with his defense team, but his lawyers say there isn’t enough time under visiting hours for them to do that.
His lawyers noted in the filing that there is “no good reason” Mangione has not been provided with the “complete discovery" of related information.
Mangione has been accused of shooting and killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan on Dec. 4. He was arrested in Pennsylvania after a multi-day search and then extradited to Brooklyn.
He has pleaded not guilty to the state charges but also faces a federal case that could carry the possibility of the death penalty.
