Man who allegedly threatened to kill Trump, visited rally arrested
An Arizona man who allegedly threatened to kill President-elect Trump in videos he posted online was arrested Monday by federal authorities, court documents show.
Manuel Tamayo-Torres made “vague yet direct threats” against law enforcement agents, Trump and his family in various videos he posted on Facebook, according to documents filed in the case.
Trump was not identified by name in the court documents, but was referred to as “Individual 1.”
"[Individual 1] you're gonna die, [Individual 1], your son's gonna die,” Tamayo-Torres said in a Facebook video that was posted last week. "Your whole family is going to die, [Individual 1]. This is reality now for you. This is the only reality you have in your future, [Individual 1], dying.”
The Arizona man threatened to shoot Trump while holding a firearm in a video posted earlier this month, according to charging documents. In it, he also allegedly made threats against Trump’s family and law enforcement agencies while holding up “what appears to be a white 15-style rifle with a 30-round magazine inserted into it.”
“You see [Individual], this from far away, [Individual 1] ... As soon I hear that leave that barrel, I'm already on the foot run after you [Individual 1],” he said in the video posted Nov. 13.
Tamayo-Torres posted a video from Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Ariz., Aug. 23, when Trump held his rally in the battleground state. During that campaign event, Trump officially introduced Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to his supporters, just hours after the environmental lawyer suspended his independent bid and endorsed the now-president-elect.
Despite being arrested near San Diego, the charges were filed in Arizona. Tamayo-Torres was charged with one count of making threats against the president or the successors to the presidency. He also faces four counts for making false statements during a firearm purchase attempt last year in Phoenix.
Trump survived two assassination attempts this year. Thomas Matthew Crooks shot the Republican candidate in the ear at a Butler, Pa., rally in July before being gunned down by a Secret Service agent.
In September, a man brought a firearm near the perimeter of the golf course where Trump was playing. A Secret Service agent fired at the man, who then fled the scene but was later arrested. In late August, local authorities arrested an Arizona man who threatened to kill Trump. Ronald Syvrud was taken into custody in Cochise County.
The Hill has reached out to the Trump-Vance transition spokesperson for comment.
