Macron vows to 'fight hard' to bring Netflix's 'Emily in Paris' back to France
French President Emmanuel Macron is on a diplomatic mission to return "Emily in Paris" back to the City of Light.
The Netflix comedy, which follows the professional and personal escapades of an American woman, played by Lily Collins, after she lands in Paris for her first postcollege job, is poised to head to Rome for its forthcoming fifth season.
Asked in an interview with Variety published Wednesday how he planned to get "Emily in Paris" back to his home country, Macron replied, "We will fight hard. And we will ask them to remain in Paris!"
"'Emily in Paris' in Rome doesn't make sense," he added.
A Netflix spokesperson didn't immediately respond to ITK's request for comment.
Despite its change of locale, Macron praised the streaming giant's Francophile-friendly show. His wife, Brigitte, made a cameo during its fourth season.
"I was super proud, and she was very happy to do it," Macron said of his wife's appearance.
"It’s just a few minutes, but I think it was a very good moment for her. I think it’s good for the image of France," Macron said.
"'Emily in Paris' is super positive in terms of attractiveness for the country," he said. "For my own business, it’s a very good initiative."
