Luigi Mangione visited Thai gun range before UHC CEO killing: Report
Luigi Mangione, the man accused of fatally shooting UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, visited a gun range during a trip to Thailand three months before he visited New York, according to travel companions.
The 26-year-old visited the gun range after taking a solo trip across Asia early last year, two German tourists, who met him while traveling, told TMZ’s new “Luigi Mangione: The Mind of a Killer” documentary.
The tourists, identified only as Paul and Max, said Mangione skipped a beach day and visited the range instead.
They also claimed Mangione was "obsessed" with the book “Hit Reverse: New Ideas From Old Books” by Indian author Jash Dholani, which examines philosophical viewpoints from various authors.
According to Dholani, Mangione attempted to buy 400 copies of the book, but the transaction was flagged and rejected by the bank. The shooting suspect was only able to buy 1 copy of his book.
Mangione faces multiple counts of murder, including murder as an act of terrorism under federal and state charges in New York and Pennsylvania, after allegedly gunning down Thompson as he was walking to an investor conference in Midtown Manhattan on Dec 4.
The federal charges could carry the possibility of the death penalty, while the maximum sentence for the state charges is life in prison without parole.
Prosecutors have said the two cases will proceed on parallel tracks, with the state charges expected to go to trial first.
