Live updates: Trump, Macron talk Russia-Ukraine war; Musk email reply now voluntary

President Trump appeared alongside French President Emmanuel Macron for a press conference Monday afternoon at the White House, after meeting on the third anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and amid fraying ties between the U.S. and Europe.
Macron arrived early at the White House to join a Group of Seven call. The leaders met one-on-one around lunchtime, and began their press conference shortly before 3 p.m.
As Trump focuses on foreign policy, ally and adviser Elon Musk is stirring controversy with a weekend email to federal workers instructing them to "reply to this email with approx. 5 bullet points of what you accomplished last week" by 11:59 p.m. EST Monday. The email followed a Truth Social post from Trump that mused Musk should be "more aggressive."
Several federal agencies advised employees not to respond. Trump on Monday said some agencies had security concerns around its employees responding to the email, but weren't being combative with Musk. Late Monday afternoon, the Office of Personnel Management said replies were voluntary.
Musk and Trump were the focus of a video created by artificial intelligence that showed up first thing Monday on screens at the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Showing Trump kissing Musk's feet, the video included “Long live the real king” overtop the image.
In Congress, both the House and the Senate return to Washington. The House has teed up for Tuesday a vote on its version of a budget resolution to kick-start Trump's agenda.
