Live updates: Trump, senators talk agenda
President-elect Trump arrived late Wednesday afternoon at the Capitol, along with former first lady Melania Trump. Both stopped in the Rotunda to pay their respects to former President Carter, who is lying in state.
Trump is set to meet with Senate Republicans at the invitation of the chamber's leadership. They're expected to discuss the agenda for his term, which starts in 12 days.
Meanwhile, Democrats have been piling criticism on Trump's ideas about Greenland, with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on Wednesday describing it as an "obsession."
“What about the November presidential election had anything to do with invading Greenland or seizing it by force? I’m confused by the obsession around these comments,” Jeffries said at a news conference.
Trump, taking media questions at Mar-a-Lago on Tuesday, reiterated America's need to take over Greenland for strategic purposes, even suggesting military action. He paired that notion wiht a suggestion that Canada and the U.S. merge. Here’s what to know about that.
