Live updates: Lawmakers talk Mexico, Canada, China tariffs; Vance stands by Trump's DEI comments
President Trump imposed sweeping tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China this week -- defending his decision on Sunday and acknowledging there may be “some pain” caused by the economic fallout.
Trump signed off on 25 percent tariffs on Canada, 25 percent tariffs on Mexico and 10 percent tariffs on China, which appear likely to set off a significant trade war.
The nation this week also mourned the deadly plane crash near Reagan National Airport followed by a fatal Philadelphia flight. Leaders debated over the accidents’ causes and rapid response measures, which caused Democrats and Republicans to clash.
Vice President JD Vance, during an appearance on Sunday Morning Futures, stood by Trump’s remarks linking diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) hiring practices to the plane crash Wednesday night.
Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) on NewsNation’s “The Hill Sunday” with Chris Stirewalt touted Trump’s decision to levy tariffs on Mexican, Canadian and Chinese exports.
Democratic Sen. John Fetterman (Pa.) is scheduled to appear on Fox News Sunday and may address the nation’s fear amid the two flying catastrophes with fresh perspectives from the Senate Transportation Committee.
