Live coverage: Trump, close allies attend the Army-Navy game; NY governor presses Biden to act on drones
As national concerns about the drones spotted on the East Coast continue to mount, President-elect Trump has arrived in Maryland alongside political allies to watch the Army-Navy rivalry football game Saturday afternoon.
Throughout the week, reports of mysterious drones seen in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania have prompted lawmakers, and state and local officials to ask for federal resources to address the now-regular sightings across the region. They have also called for more transparency from federal agencies about the situation.
On Saturday, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) called on Congress and the Biden administration to take action after a local airfield had to temporarily shut down due to safety concerns.
Some lawmakers, including House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La), have been briefed on the sightings as the government shutdown deadline looms. House leadership says a final funding plan to keep the government’s lights on will likely be unveiled this weekend.
Concerns also still linger regarding the health of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who was hospitalized after falling down the stairs while on a congressional visit in Luxembourg Friday. On Saturday, a spokesperson from her office shared that she had a successful hip replacement surgery following the incident.
Trump, alongside Vice President-elect JD Vance and Daniel Penny, who was acquitted of negligent homicide charges this week, are attending the matchup between Army and Navy in Maryland.
The president-elect’s pick to lead the Department of Defense, Pete Hegseth, also joined Trump at the game after receiving a warmer reception from skeptical lawmakers on Capitol Hill this week.
Tulsi Gabbard, Trump's pick to head national intelligence in his second administration, also joined Trump at the game. She has struggled to woo senators as she makes her case to join Trump's administration.
