Live courts coverage: Trump sentenced; Giuliani faces contempt while Supreme Court chilly on TikTok
President-elect Trump was sentenced Friday in his hush money conviction, but the judge overseeing the case opted to not impose any punishment in a brief hearing in New York in which Trump and his attorney appeared virtually.
In brief remarks, Trump told the judge he believed the case was an "injustice of justice" and expressed no remorse, failing to take any accountability for his conviction on 34 charges of falsifying business records.
The sentencing in New York was the final step in securing Trump's status as the first person convicted of a felony to assume the presidency, when he is inaugurated in just more than a week.
Meanwhile Friday, the Supreme Court heard arguments that will determine the future of the social media platform TikTok. The justices heard over two hours of oral arguments about a federal law that could ban the video-sharing platform nationwide in less than 10 days.
Next up in Washington is Rudy Giuliani, who is slated to take the stand in a criminal contempt case over accusations he has continued to make false statements about a set of Georgia election workers he accused of election fraud in 2020. That hearing began early Friday afternoon with the judge admonishing the former New York mayor.
