Lee Greenwood hits back at critics of 'God Bless the USA' Bible sales: 'Trump haters'
Country musician Lee Greenwood is defending the “God Bless the USA” Bibles he's selling in partnership with former President Trump, who is set to go on trial next month over hush money payments made to an adult film star.
Trump shared a video to his Truth Social platform earlier this week to promote the Bibles he is selling with Greenwood, describing the Bible as his “favorite book.” In the days since, Trump has faced backlash for the partnership, with many pointing to post his scores of criminal charges as well as his history of hawking products from steaks to sneakers.
Greenwood dismissed the criticism in a Thursday interview with Newsmax’s Bianca de la Garza.
“I think it’s just from the Trump haters. I don’t even believe people on the left hate religion. It’s just the Trump haters is all,” Greenwood said. “And we’ve been promoting this Bible for over three years, so because the president has also asked the nation to pray and use that particular Bible.”
“I mean, he could have used any Bible at all, but because it has the documents of our Founding Fathers, I think that makes it unique,” he added.
Greenwood also said he was “proud of the president for stepping forward and saying that he believes in God, he’s a Christian, and this nation still should be praying for our country.”
When promoting the $60 Bible, Trump urged Americans to pray more.
“Religion and Christianity are the biggest things missing from this country. And I truly believe that we need to bring them back and have to bring them back fast,” Trump said in a video shared on Truth Social. “I think it’s one of the biggest problems we have. That’s why our country is going haywire. We’ve lost religion in our country.”
The website selling the Bibles noted they come in “easy-to-read, large print” that will be “perfect to take to church, a bible study, work, travel, etc.” The King James Bible includes lyrics from Greenwood’s “God Bless the U.S.A.,” as well as the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) mocked Trump over the partnership earlier this week and encouraged him to read what the Bible says about adultery. The co-hosts of ABC’s “The View” also blasted Trump for selling the Bibles, calling it “pandering.”
