Leavitt 'will respect' Trump decision on press secretary gig
The spokesperson for President-elect Trump's electoral campaign, Karoline Leavitt, brushed aside questions during a Fox News interview Thursday about whether she is interested in serving as White House press secretary.
"I have been honored to serve as the spokesperson for President Trump's campaign," she told anchor Martha MacCallum, calling it "a great pleasure to have a front-row seat to the greatest political comeback in history."
"Ultimately these are decisions President Trump has to make," she continued. "I will let him make it and I will respect whatever decision he does."
MacCallum told Leavitt "it's clear he thinks highly of you" and noted she is one of several top aides and allies to the former president who is believed to be in consideration for the role.
Leavitt worked in Trump's White House press shop under former press secretary Kayleigh McEnany during his first term and was a top press aide to Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) after Trump left office.
If selected, Leavitt, 27, would be the youngest White House press secretary since Ron Ziegler in the 1970s during former President Nixon’s administration. Ziegler was 29 at the time he was tapped for the position.
