LA City Council president 'excited' for Trump to visit
Los Angeles City Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson said in a Sunday interview that he’s excited for President-elect Trump to visit California.
In an interview on MSNBC’s “The Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart,” Harris-Dawson added that he hopes the visit comes before Trump’s Inauguration Day, on Jan. 20.
"I’m ready for him. We’ll be excited to see him here, you know, to be in Pacific Palisades, here in the city of Los Angeles, the San Fernando Valley, and Pasadena, Altadena,” Harris-Dawson said, when asked whether he wants Trump to visit the state.
“We hope that he comes soon, before the 20th,” he continued. “I know that the mayor and the governor are working on that, and so we’re very excited to see him here."
California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) on Friday invited Trump to visit California, amid an ongoing back-and-forth between the two leaders over the handling of the Southern California wildfires.
Asked about Newsom’s invitation, Vice President-elect JD Vance said in a weekend interview, “I know the president would love to visit California” but did not elaborate on any specific plans.
The death toll from the raging wildfires in Southern California has surged to 24 people, as officials warned of more powerful winds in days ahead that could potentially derail progress on containing the fires.
The Palisades Fire, by Monday afternoon, was 14 percent contained, having burned 23,713 acres. The Eaton Fire was 33 percent contained, having burned 14,117 acres. The Hurst Fire was 95 percent contained, having burned 799 acres, according to county data.
