Kevin Bacon: 'V-O-T-E. Be a grown-up'
Actor Kevin Bacon encouraged his followers to cast their ballot in an impromptu video telling them to, “ V-O-T-E. Be a grown-up.”
“There are people out there that don’t want Americans to vote,” Bacon said early in the recording. “They don't want you to vote based on where you live or what they perceive your beliefs might be, or your age or even the way you look or the way you sound.”
He fondly recalled memories of voting with his mother in Philadelphia and waiting for the moment he could head to the polls by himself. Bacon’s words echoed the importance of each person's vote and highlighted efforts to prevent Americans from fully taking advantage of their right.
“Make no mistake, voter suppression, voter intimidation, these are fundamentally un-American things to do. So please, don’t wave my flag at me and tell me that you are a patriot if you want to keep your fellow Americans from exercising their right to vote,” Bacon said.
He later added that this was a “big” election and told his fans to, “Look at the calendar, see what you're doing and make a plan.”
