Infowars employee killed in Texas, law enforcement confirms

Editor's Note: The above video is KXAN's initial coverage of the incident Monday, March 10, 2024.
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Jamie White, an employee of conspiracy theorist Alex Jones's Infowars, was the victim of a homicide in southeast Austin, Texas, late Sunday night, law enforcement sources confirmed to Nexstar's KXAN.
"Jamie was a light we were blessed to experience as much as we did. He’s a one-of-a-kind man who poured his devotion in anything he did," Infowars posted Monday.
Police were called to an apartment complex around 11:57 p.m. Sunday. When they arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound in the complex’s parking lot, Austin Police Department (APD) Detective Leah Ratliff said in an early Monday morning briefing.
"The initial investigation shows that White was shot and killed in the parking lot of the apartment complex in which he lived," the APD said in a release Tuesday.
Ratliff said officers tried to save the man’s life before he was taken to the hospital. The APD said he died at the hospital at 12:19 a.m.
Police said the suspects fled the scene.
"Detectives believe the suspects were possibly burglarizing White’s vehicle, when he interrupted them," APD said in the release.
APD has not released any suspect description but asked anyone who may have had their vehicle burglarized that night to report it to them here. This is being investigated as APD’s eighth homicide of the year so far.
On Monday, Jones reacted on X, identifying White as a reporter and saying he was "brutally murdered." He also shared a video of KXAN’s coverage of the killing along with a reaction video of his own.
"We are deeply saddened to inform you that InfoWars Reporter Jamie White was brutally murdered around midnight Sunday night," he posted. "We pledge that Jamie’s tragic death will not be in vain, and those responsible for this senseless violence will be brought to justice. Jamie’s important work will be carried on through InfoWars, our readers, and our cherished listeners."
