Harris-Walz campaign sells out of new Taylor Swift-inspired merch after endorsement
(NEXSTAR) – Fans of Taylor Swift are no strangers to having to wait for album drops, concert tickets, and new merch from the global pop star. And now, those fans who also celebrated Swift's endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris after Tuesday's debate are face-to-face with a scene they know "All Too Well" — a sold-out screen for Swift-inspired merchandise from the Harris-Walz campaign.
Almost immediately after Swift threw her support behind Kamala Harris for president, the Harris-Walz campaign debuted their own friendship bracelets containing the candidates’ names.
“Are you ready for it?” reads a message alongside the product description of the bracelets at KamalaHarris.com, in an apparent nod to Swift's 2017 song "…Ready For It?" "Harris-Walz friendship bracelets have hit the store!"
The bracelets, sold in a two-pack, come with blue and black straps, each with the names “Harris” and “Walz” spelled out in white beads. They were only ever available for pre-order — with shipping estimated for Sept. 24 — but are currently sold out on the campaign site.
A representative for the campaign was not immediately available to comment on how many units were available, nor whether more will be available in the coming days.
Swift’s fans have often worn or traded their own friendship bracelets for years. The trend was inspired by the lyrics to her 2022 song “You’re On Your Own, Kid” from the album “Midnights.”
“So make the friendship bracelets, take the moment and taste it/You've got no reason to be afraid,” Swift sings in the song.
In the weeks leading up to the first presidential debate between Harris and former President Donald Trump, Swift’s fans had speculated about the pop star’s plans to support a candidate.
In a post to Instagram shortly after the end of Tuesday’s debate, Swift ultimately encouraged her followers “do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most.”
She went on to express fears about the use of AI-generated images to create a fake endorsement of former President Donald Trump, explaining that it prompted her to be “very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter” and officially endorsing Harris.
Swift signed the long message “childless cat lady” — a reference to past remarks from Trump’s running mate Sen. JD Vance (Ohio).
Vance has received backlash over the comment, which he made while speaking on Fox News in 2021. At the time, he told former Fox News personality Tucker Carlson he believed Democrats were promoting an “antifamily” agenda led by “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.”
The comments resurfaced after Trump added him to his ticket, and quickly became fodder for Democrats, though Vance has repeatedly tried to pass off the comments as “sarcasm” and a “joke.”
Swift also endorsed President Joe Biden in 2020.
