Harris up by 1 point over Trump in Pennsylvania survey
Vice President Harris and former President Trump are neck-and-neck among likely voters in Pennsylvania, according to the University of Massachusetts Lowell Center for Public Opinion and YouGov poll released Thursday.
Harris leads Trump by 1 point, 46 percent to 45 percent, in the key battleground state, which both candidates see as critical to clinching the presidency. No other candidate in the survey receives more than 1 percent support from respondents, while 6 percent say they are undecided.
“With less than three weeks until Election Day, the race in Pennsylvania is essentially tied,” UMass Lowell Center for Public Opinion’s associate director, assistant professor Rodrigo Castro Cornejo, said in a statement.
“It is increasingly clear the election will be decided by the candidate who is able to successfully mobilize their voters Nov. 5 and during the early voting period,” he added.
The poll represents little change from late last month, when the same survey found likely Pennsylvania voters favor Harris over Trump by two points, 48 percent to 46 percent.
In the poll released this week, Harris leads Trump by 9 points among women, 49 percent to 40 percent, while 8 percent say they are undecided. Trump, meanwhile, leads Harris by 11 points among men, while 3 percent remain undecided.
Younger voters in Pennsylvania, ages 18-44, prefer Harris over Trump by 17 points. Among voters ages 45-64, Trump leads Harris by 13 points. Seniors are roughly split, with 48 percent supporting Trump and 45 percent supporting Harris.
Independents signal they support Trump over Harris, 37 percent to 32 percent, but nearly a quarter, 24 percent, of them say they remain undecided.
Less than three weeks ahead of the presidential election, the race appears to be a toss-up between the two candidates, who each have a narrow path to winning.
According to the latest Pennsylvania polling average from Decision Desk HQ/The Hill, the two candidates are virtually tied, with Harris leading Trump, 48.6 percent to 48.3 percent.
The poll was conducted on Oct. 2-9 and included 800 likely voters in Pennsylvania. Its margin of error is plus or minus 3.97 percentage points.
