Harris: Trump 'has no idea' about women's health care
Vice President Harris on Thursday night made an appeal to female voters at a rally in Wisconsin, arguing former President Trump doesn’t know what he’s talking about when it comes to women’s health care.
She played clips during her rally of Trump saying he will protect women, that women will no longer be thinking about abortion if he’s elected and hailing the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. She then played the clip of Trump in a Fox News town hall in Georgia this week calling himself the “father of IVF.”
“First of all, no, Donald, everybody did not want Roe v. Wade to be overturned, women are dying of sepsis because they cannot get the health care they need,” Harris said at the rally in Green Bay, Wis. “Couples just trying to grow their family are being cut off in the middle of IVF treatment.”
“Now the man calls himself the father of IVF? I mean what does that even mean?” she added, referencing her rival’s comments on in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Trump, during the town hall, sought to claim credit as a defender of the fertility treatment that conservative Supreme Court justices threw into uncertainty by overturning Roe.
“He is the one who is responsible for it being at risk in the first place,” Harris said. “When you listen to Donald Trump talk, it becomes increasingly clear, I think, he has no idea what he’s talking about when it comes to the health care of women in America.”
Harris on Wednesday called Trump’s comments on IVF “quite bizarre” when asked about them during campaign travel Wednesday.
At the Thursday rally, Harris said she would be a president for all Americans, regardless of “where they get their news,” noting that she was interviewed by Fox News the night before. She mentioned that former President Trump meanwhile participated in a Univision town hall that night and was asked about Jan. 6, 2021.
"He called it 'a day of love,'" she said to boos from the crowd. “And we are all clear, the American people are exhausted with his gaslighting — exhausted. Enough, enough.”
Harris held a rally in La Crosse, Wis., earlier Thursday, during which she taunted hecklers demonstrating in the audience. She was interrupted during her remarks and quipped that they should instead be attending a “smaller” rally “down the street.”
Trump is leading Harris by less than 1 percentage point in Wisconsin, according to Decision Desk HQ/The Hill’s average of polls.
