Harris slightly ahead of Trump in Georgia but trails in Arizona: Fox News poll
Vice President Harris has a slight lead over her political rival, former President Trump, in the battleground state of Georgia, but she trails the ex-president in Arizona by the same margin, according to new polling released Thursday.
Harris outpaced Trump in Georgia by 3 percentage points, 51 percent support to 48 percent, among likely and registered voters, maintaining her narrow lead from August in the Peach State, according to a new poll from Fox News. The Democratic nominee's lead was within the margin of error.
The vice president's largest lead over Trump was on the issue of abortion, garnering 57 percent support while the ex-president earned 39 percent. Trump fared better with the economy and immigration, seen as one of the top issues for 2024 election voters. The former president had a double-digit advantage on immigration, with 56 percent support to Harris's 41 percent, while having a narrow lead on the economy, 51 percent to 47 percent, according to the survey.
Around 52 percent of surveyed Georgians said Harris would do more to help the middle class, while 45 percent chose Trump. The same gap, in favor of the vice president, was present on the issue of protecting democracy.
Trump has a 0.4 percentage point lead in Georgia, the state he narrowly lost in the 2020 election, according to the latest The Hill/Decision Desk HQ aggregate of polls.
The former president leads Harris by 3 percentage points in Arizona among likely voters, 51 percent support to 48 percent, a gap within the poll's margin of error. Trump's lead remained intact when third-party candidates were included, according to the new Fox News poll.
In a match-up with Trump last month, Harris had a 1-point lead over Trump, 50 percent support to 49 percent, among registered voters in the Grand Canyon State, according to the August iteration of the survey.
Since that poll, the vice president's advantage with Hispanic voters dropped to 11 points. She also had a double-digit lead over the former president among voters under the age of 30. Now she trails by 12 points. Trump also had a 5 percentage point lead, 51 percent to 46 percent, with new voters in the state, or those who have not cast a ballot in the last four White House elections.
Harris's widest lead was on abortion, with 56 percent support to 41 percent. She also had a narrow advantage in protecting democracy, 3 percentage points, and fighting for the middle class, 2 percentage points, according to the survey.
The ex-president had the upper edge on immigration among Arizona's registered voters, with 56 percent support to 41 percent. He also topped the vice president on the economy, getting 53 percent support to Harris's 45 percent, the poll found.
Trump has a 0.9 percentage point lead over the vice president in Arizona, according to The Hill/Decision Desk HQ's aggregate of polls.
Fox News's Georgia poll was conducted Sept. 20-24 among 1,006 Georgia registered voters. The margin of error was 3 percentage points. The Arizona poll was conducted Sept. 20-24 among 1,021 Arizona registered voters. The margin of error was 3 percentage points.
