Haley jabs Stephanopoulos over exchange on Biden not finishing term

Former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley on Tuesday took a swipe at ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos, who dismissed her suggestion last year that President Biden will not finish his White House term.
Haley, who ran for the GOP presidential nomination earlier this year, reposted a video on the social platform X of her appearance on ABC's "Good Morning America" (GMA) from last August, when she asserted a vote for Biden is a vote for Vice President Harris.
Captioning her repost of the video Tuesday, Haley wrote, "Believe me now, George?"
During the back-and-forth with Stephanopoulos last summer, the former GOP presidential candidate said, "There is no way Joe Biden is going to finish his term. I think Kamala Harris is going to be the next president and that should send a chill up every American’s spine.”
Stephanopoulos interjected at the time, "Excuse me. One second about that, how do you know that Joe Biden is not going to finish his term? What is that based on?"
“Ask Americans,” Haley replied, at the time. “We look at the decline he’s had over the last few years. You have to be honest with the American people, George: There’s no way that Joe Biden is going to finish out a next term. We can’t have an 81-year-old president.”
Haley took the dig at Stephanopoulos as Biden faces increasing calls from his own party to step aside from the 2024 race following his disastrous debate performance against former President Trump last week.
Biden, during the forum, appeared to stumble over his words and lose his train of thought, fueling concerns over his mental acuity and ability to carry out a second term.
The president already clinched the Democratic nomination by winning a majority of delegates, and he has maintained he does not intend to drop out of the 2024 race.
Harris's name has been repeatedly floated as Biden's potential replacement should he choose to withdraw from the race. She has doubled down on her support of the president and said Tuesday that she is "proud" to be his running mate.
A CNN poll published Tuesday found she is polling closer to Trump than Biden is.
Stephanopoulos, the anchor of ABC's "This Week" and "GMA," will interview Biden in what will be the incumbent's first television interview granted since last week's debate. It will air on ABC, with portions of the conversation first broadcast Friday.
The full extended interview will air Sunday on both shows.
Stephanopoulos has been the anchor of “This Week” for more than two decades and was previously a top Democratic adviser and communications director for former President Clinton.
ABC is set to host the second presidential debate between Biden and former President Trump, scheduled for Sept. 10.
