Gunfire damages Harris campaign office in Arizona
An Arizona office used by Vice President Harris's campaign and state Democratic congressional candidates was damaged by gunfire Monday, according to a report from NBC News.
The Tempe Police Department is investigating the incident, which took place a few days before Harris has a scheduled visit to Arizona.
Since no one was at the office during the incident, law enforcement is labeling it a property crime, The Associated Press reported.
“We are grateful to Tempe Police for coming quickly to the scene and are fortunate no one was present or injured,” Sean McEnerney, the Arizona Democratic Party coordinated campaign manager, said in a statement, according to the AP.
The Harris campaign last held a campaign event in Tempe with gun control advocate Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.) in late August. Harris did not attend that event. She was last in Arizona in early August.
Gun violence has been a hot topic for Harris — a gun owner — as a presidential candidate. During an interview with Oprah last week, she made national headlines for saying she would shoot an intruder if they entered her home.
Throughout her campaign, she has called for the banning of assault weapons and for states to institute red flag laws.
“We've got to end the epidemic of gun violence in our country once and for all,” she told supporters at her New Hampshire rally earlier this month after the Georgia school shooting that killed four.
The Hill reached out to the Harris campaign and Tempe police for comment.
