Georgia GOP boots former lieutenant governor who backed Harris
The Georgia Republican Party has booted longtime President-elect Trump critic former Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan (R), who backed Vice President Harris’s 2024 bid for the White House.
A resolution from the Georgia GOP’s State Executive Committee featured in a Tuesday release from the party stated the former lieutenant governor “is hereby expelled from the Georgia Republican Party.”
The Georgia Republican Party also said Monday it was requesting Duncan be referred to "as 'expelled Republican Geoff Duncan' or ‘ousted Republican Geoff Duncan’ when you go to him for quotes trashing President Trump and the Republican Party,” in a media advisory posted to social platform X.
In a later response to the Monday post on X, Duncan said it is difficult “to believe this is a good use of time for a party that’s only got a limited amount of time to figure out mass deportations, world peace and global tariffs.”
“Learn how to take a victory lap not light another dumpster fire @JoshMcKoon,” he added, taking a swing at the chair of the Georgia GOP.
Duncan faced backlash from fellow Republicans amid the 2020 presidential election when he sided with Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) over Trump in certifying the election results. Duncan also spoke at the 2024 Democratic National Convention, saying at the time that voting for Harris meant “you’re a patriot.”
“I can spend my time revving up this crowd, but I’m certain I don’t have to talk anybody out of voting for Donald Trump here,” Duncan said at the convention. “So I’m going to focus my attention on the millions of Republicans and independents at home that are sick and tired of making excuses for Donald Trump.”
The Hill has reached out to the Georgia GOP for further comment.
