George W. Bush's daughter Barbara backs Harris, campaigns in Pennsylvania
Barbara Pierce Bush, the daughter of former President George W. Bush, endorsed Vice President Harris’s presidential bid and spent part of the weekend campaigning for the Democratic ticket in Pennsylvania, "People" magazine reported.
"It was inspiring to join friends and meet voters with the Harris-Walz campaign in Pennsylvania this weekend," Bush told People in a statement Tuesday.
"I’m hopeful they'll move our country forward and protect women’s rights,” she continued.
The magazine published a photo of Bush and her friends door-knocking in Pennsylvania this past weekend.
Members of the Harris campaign posted about Bush’s endorsement. The Hill has reached out to the campaign for additional comment.
Bush, 42, has supported Planned Parenthood in the past, but she told People in 2010 that she is not identified with either major political party.
Her parents — former President George W. Bush and former first lady Laura Bush — will not be making any public endorsements in the 2024 race, a spokesperson for the former president’s office told NBC News early last month.
"President Bush retired from presidential politics years ago," the office said at the time.
Bush’s former vice president, Dick Cheney, has taken a different approach. He has publicly backed the Harris campaign, and his daughter, former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), has been campaigning alongside Harris in the lead-up to next week’s election.
The younger Cheney praised Barbara Pierce Bush on Tuesday in response to the endorsement.
“Thank you, Barbara Bush, for standing for truth, decency, and freedom,” the former congresswoman wrote on the social platform X.
