Frost launches bid to become first Gen Z congressional leader

Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.) launched a bid for Democratic leadership on Thursday, announcing his candidacy for co-chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC). If he wins the position, he will be the first Generation Z congressional leader from either party.

He shared a letter, obtained by Axios, with fellow lawmakers to hammer down on his experiences in recent months and his eagerness to play a larger role in shaping the future of the party.

“I’ve traveled the nation over the past several months, primarily connecting with young and working-class Americans,” Frost wrote. “I’ve heard clearly that there is a hunger for leaders who will forcefully stand for an economy and country that directly benefits them and their communities.”

The 27-year-old advocated for Vice President Harris on the campaign trail, connecting with younger voters through college campus events and tours while promoting the Democratic ticket.

“As your co-chair, I plan to bring one of the founding principles of my office to the entire caucus – the idea that to be effective communicators we must try to bridge the divide between cool and consciousness and cede no form of communication to our Republican counterparts,” the lawmaker added.

“That we should seek to not use culture, but be a part of it and mold it ourselves.”

Frost proposed creating a digital creator partnership to bolster Democratic messaging through non-traditional media, and improve event staging in addition to providing workshops for Congressmen on branding and style.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas), a former Harris-Walz campaign co-chair, aims to challenge Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.) for the DPCC chairmanship.
