Fetterman says he would support some Trump Cabinet nominations: 'I'm not sure why that's controversial'
Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) said he would support some of his Republican colleagues being nominated for various Cabinet positions in President-elect Trump's administration, saying he is "not sure" why the decision to do so is controversial.
During an appearance on Fox News Sunday, the Pennsylvania Democrat said he would support some of Trump's nominations, including Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) as Trump's pick for secretary of State, confirming he would vote yes for the Florida Republican.
Fetterman also clarified that while he never committed to supporting Dr. Mehmet Oz after Trump picked him to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), he doesn't hold "any kind of bitterness."
"I'm open to a dialog here what he has to say about these things," he said. "I'm not sure why that's controversial."
"I'm going to have an open conversation for anyone that I'm open to having part of that conversation," Fetterman added.
Fetterman noted that there are some Republican colleagues he might not feel completely sold on.
"There's some people that I just couldn't be able to vote for that, and there's some that might be able to enthusiastically vote yes," he said.
"I think there's good things there, and there's some things that I can't vote for, but that's what happens when the other team wins," Fetterman said. "And I don't understand why it's controversial to say."
He also reminded Senate Democrats that Republicans hold the majority.
"I also would remind my side that...in the Senate, we're at 53 to 47 with the new administration, so they're going to have the votes at the end of the day," he said.
