Eric Hovde says he feels 'really good' about the Wisconsin Senate race
Republican Senate candidate Eric Hovde said Sunday that he feels “really good” about his race against Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.).
“So, look, I feel really good about where the race is heading,” Hovde said on “The Hill Sunday” to NewsNation’s Chris Stirewalt. “As you've probably seen, a lot of attention’s coming to this state now. Wisconsin is the key battleground state. Whoever wins it will probably win the presidency.
“And if I can win then, you know, it will change the control of the U.S. Senate, not just for the next two years, but potentially the next four,” Hovde added.
Baldwin is currently ahead of Hovde by 4.2 percentage points, according to a Wisconsin polling average from The Hill/Decision Desk HQ.
Hovde said in his Sunday interview that “in some polls, it shows that I've been a point above Donald Trump.”
"And by the way, remember, Wisconsin underpolled Donald Trump by 6 or 7 points in 2016, and by about 6 points in 2020, so I don't really put a [lot of] … weight on the polls," Hovde added.
The race between Hovde and Baldwin is one of a few key Senate races Democrats and Republicans are tangling over this year, with Democrats wanting to maintain their hold on the upper chamber and Republicans wanting to reclaim it.
A Marquette University Law School poll released Wednesday found Baldwin ahead of Hovde by 7 points, garnering 53 percent support from registered and likely voters to Hovde’s 46 percent.
The Hill has reached out to the Baldwin campaign for comment.
