Crockett: Worried Democrats need to 'stop talking, and get to working’
Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D) urged her party members to ramp up support for Vice President Harris in the final days before the election as she works to gain the edge in a race deadlocked with former President Trump.
“I wish that people would stop talking and get to working. Because I know right now I'm not sleeping, because it's just that important,” Crockett said in a conversation with CNN’s Jim Acosta.
Over the past three months, the Harris-Walz campaign spent more than $1 billion on ads and ramped up media blitzes in an effort to sway undecided voters.
The former president is leading in swing states like Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina, where the electoral votes will be crucial in determining the next president.
Democratic party leaders have warned about the dangers of complacency in a close race, referencing Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s defeat in 2016.
“Could we still win? Maybe. Should anyone be even slightly optimistic right now? No,” one strategist told The Hill.
Despite the discourse, Harris maintains a 1 percentage point lead nationally 11 days out from the general election, according to The Hill/Decision Desk HQ’s polling average. In the final week before voters cast their ballots, the vice president’s team is not surprised that voters remain undecided.
“People are still trying to make up their mind. We live in a very divided country. It's going to be an extremely close election,” Harris spokesperson Ian Sams said during a CNN appearance. “Both candidates have consolidated their parties' support behind them. We're competing for a very small sliver of voters who are still trying to make up their mind. And it's understandable.”
