Crockett calls Texas Gov. Abbott 'Governor Hot Wheels'

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) is drawing sharp criticism for comments she made about Texas Gov. Gregg Abbott (R) at the Human Rights Campaign’s Los Angeles Dinner on Saturday.
Crockett began her remarks by calling for those gathered to “pray for her” because “who knows what I'mma end up saying.”
She then proceeded to speak of the challenges of being a Black woman in America, followed by praising those with intersecting identities such as being Black, female and LGBTQ, before she spoke of the challenges facing Texas.
“Y’all know we got Governor Hot Wheels down there. Come on now,” Crockett said, drawing laughter and applause from the audience. “And the only thing hot about him is that he is a hot a-- mess, honey.”

Abbott, who uses a wheelchair, was paralyzed more than 40 years ago after a tree fell on him.
The Texas governor, a strong supporter of President Trump, has faced his own condemnation from Democrats over his stance on issues like gun control, immigration and voting rights.
Crockett’s comments drew outrage from Republicans.
“Recent polling shows Crazy Crockett as one of the leaders of the Democrat Party. This is who they are,” the National Republican Congressional Committee posted on social media with a clip of Crockett’s remarks.
Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) called Crockett’s comments “disgraceful.”
“Can you imagine if a Republican said something like this?” Coryn posted on X. “It would be on front page of NYT and all over CNN.”
Members of Fox News’s "Outnumbered" panel were not only quick to condemn Crockett’s comments but offered their own harsh words about Crockett herself.
“She’s trying to demean the governor in order to score cheap political points. She’s an attention whore,” said contributor Lisa Kennedy Montgomery.
Crockett’s office did not immediately respond to The Hill’s request for comment.
Crockett, who served as a national co-chair for the Harris-Walz presidential campaign, has emerged as a prominent face of the Democratic Party on Capitol Hill, becoming a household name for her viral zingers.
In February, the Texas Democrat accused President Trump of acting like a “thug.”
Following Trump’s meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House earlier this month, Crockett called Trump “Putin’s ho.” The remarks came just days after Crockett said she would like to tell billionaire Elon Musk to “‘f--- off.”
