Commerce secretary: Buy Tesla stock

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has a message for people looking to combat attacks on Elon Musk’s Tesla dealerships: Buy Tesla stock.
Lutnick appeared on Fox News's “Jesse Watters Primetime” on Wednesday and was asked about the recent attacks from protesters in several states that have targeted Tesla dealerships, showrooms, charging stations and vehicles.
“I mean, this is just so outrageous,” Lutnick replied. “You have probably the best entrepreneur, the best technologist, the best leader of any set of companies in America working for America, and you have this sort of weird side of the Democratic Party attacking him.”
Lutnick pointed to Musk’s SpaceX company successfully bringing back the stranded astronauts from the International Space Station this week, highlighting his commitment to the country. The secretary also noted Musk will be building the “next generation” of technology through his various companies.
“I think, if you want to learn something on this show tonight: Buy Tesla,” he said. “It’s unbelievable that this guy’s stock is this cheap. It’ll never be this cheap again.”
Lutnick later added, “Who wouldn’t invest in Elon Musk? You got to be kidding.”
Musk has experienced scrutiny since he began his role in the Trump administration leading the Department of Government Efficiency.
Tesla stock has dropped 34.6 percent over the past month as Trump’s tariff plan shakes up the stock market and concerns grow over Musk’s influence over the federal government.
The company has seen a significant drop since last December, when it was at $479 a share. The Nasdaq composite showed Tesla ending Wednesday at $235 a share.
Lutnick said Wednesday evening that he thinks this is the lowest Tesla stock will drop. But just hours after the show, premarket trading early Thursday put the stock at $232.35, another drop.
The secretary made his case on-air Wednesday, however, noting that he believes Musk is the “best person to bet on I’ve ever met.”
“Elon Musk is the best entrepreneur and technologist in America, and I bet on him,” Lutnick said. “I wish I was allowed to buy any stock.”
