Colbert's 'Late Show' to air live from Chicago during Democratic convention
Comedian Stephen Colbert’s “The Late Show” is headed to Chicago for the Democratic National Convention this summer, the late-night host said Wednesday.
“‘The Late Show' is doing shows from Chicago for the entire Democratic convention,” Colbert said on his show Wednesday.
The shows will be live, according to a post by the show’s account on Instagram.
Colbert said he lived in Chicago in the past for a period of 11 years and that “it holds a special place in my heart.” He also joked that the city was where he, originally from South Carolina, “got an education in winter.”
“Did you, did you know that tears can freeze?” the comedian said.
The Democratic convention will take place Aug. 19-22. President Biden will most likely clinch his party’s nomination during the convention in the Windy City, as he is now the Democrats’ presumptive presidential nominee.
Biden previously praised the decision to have the convention in Chicago, calling it a “great choice“ in a statement.
"Democrats will gather to showcase our historic progress including building an economy from the middle out and bottom up, not from the top down,” Biden said.
Jamie Harrison, the Democratic National Committee chair, also welcomed the decision.
“I am thrilled that Democrats will take the stage in Chicago to share our party’s vision and values,” Harrison said in a statement. “The Midwest reflects America and will give Democrats an opportunity to showcase some of President Biden and Vice President Harris’s most significant accomplishments for American families.”
