Carville: Trump 'lies about everything except … when he’s going to have a roundup'
Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville said Sunday that former President Trump “lies about everything,” but is telling the truth when he says he will round up his political opponents, if he wins the election next month.
“He lies about everything, except, except he’s telling the truth when he’s going to have a roundup,” Carville said on MSNBC’s “Inside with Jen Psaki” on Sunday.
Carville cited recent comments from Trump’s former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, who is likely to join a potential second Trump administration.
Flynn, whom Trump fired early in his administration, pleaded guilty in 2017 to lying to the FBI about speaking with the Russian ambassador, though he later withdrew the plea. Trump pardoned Flynn before leaving office.
Trump also cited recent comments from former Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair retired Gen. Mark Milley, who called the former president “a total fascist,” according to excerpts from a recent book.
“General Flynn is telling the truth when he says the gates of hell are going to rain on his enemies. We already know previously the things that he tried to do, how he tried to involve the military,” Carville said.
“General Milley — you should look him up — this guy is not chopped liver. This is one of the most accomplished soldiers in the modern history of the United States Army. He’s highly educated,” Carville continued. “When he says that Trump is a fascist to his bones, believe General Milley. Believe what’s at stake here.”
Carville said he thinks Democrats should focus on what he described as Trump’s threat to the Constitution.
“Forget about the Al Smith Dinner, forget about long-form journalism, forget about specificity in the economic plan or whether or not Jack Smith is being mean to Trump, and focus on what’s at stake here,” Carville said.
“That, literally, this election is about the Constitution. We are not going to have one if we lose it. And I’m not exaggerating. I’d love to debate anybody on that question,” he added.
Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung dismissed Carville's warning, in a statement to The Hill.
"James Carville must be losing his marbles. President Trump is 100% correct — those who seek to undermine democracy by sowing chaos in our elections are a direct threat, just like the terrorist from Afghanistan that was arrested for plotting multiple attacks on Election Day within the United States," he said.
