Bill Clinton: Trump interested in 100 percent loyalty ‘no matter who gets hurt’
Former President Clinton said President-elect Trump is interested in keeping people around him who are 100 percent loyal, “no matter who gets hurt.”
“You have to listen to Donald Trump. He’s been very forthright about how he views the world. He’s interested in people who are loyal to him 100 percent of the time, no matter what the issue, no matter what the facts, no matter who gets hurt,” Clinton said Sunday during an interview on MSNBC.
As Trump continues to fill his senior positions, there’s concern about the nominees and what they will do in office, if they are confirmed by the Senate. Several candidates have also been linked to controversies, and questions have been raised about some nominees' qualifications for the country’s most important jobs.
Former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) was nominated to be attorney general, but a sexual misconduct allegation and House Ethics Committee report tanked his chances, and he withdrew last week.
Former “Fox & Friends Weekend” host Pete Hegseth has been tapped for secretary of Defense, but he also has sexual assault allegations.
Pundits and politicians argue some nominees have been chosen by the president-elect because they will follow through on his agenda without asking questions or pushing back like his last administration.
Tom Homan, who was chosen as Trump’s "border czar," plans to carry out mass deportations across the country as part of the Trump administration’s immigration plan, and vowed nothing will stop him.
Clinton argued Trump is compiling a Cabinet of people who will “just say yes.”
“He believes that his supporters have no confidence whatever in the federal government, and Lord knows, he’s done everything he could to destroy that confidence,” Clinton said. “And he believes he can just say, ‘well, I appointed these people are smart, and they’re going to shake things up.’”
Clinton argued that through this, Trump and his allies are “breaking down the legitimacy” of appointing people to top positions who “actually know things that are very important for us today and very important for our continued growth and prosperity.”
